I do not know of anyone else that writes book like Matthew does. You open the book and you don't want to put it down until the last page ends. This one is the best one I have read since The Seven Ancient Wonders which is the first book of this what turns out to be trilogy. In this one you travel all over the world trying to save the planet from some ancient curse. Stonehenge Abu Sinbal and lots more places of great historic significance. I did not know when I started this book that it was only going to be one third of the story but it turns out that there are three books in this series. It's a great summer read I read most of it in the sunshine sitting in the garden and parts when I was kept awake by the famous knee. If I have tempted you to read these books please I implore you read them in order The Seven Ancient Wonders first as you really need to know what happens there to make sense of it all.Don't know what I will read next quite exhausted after this one. However on with this one this was a great story it is the second one I have read of this author and another of the Alan Banks books. Another great thriller with all hes usual twists and turns. Now I have been really clever and I have managed to get a hold of the very first Banks story so I will start that in a few days whenever I finish the adventure story I am reading at the moment. If you like a good mystery thrillers Peter Robinson is the author for you. With this great weather books in the garden are just the job for me. Alan Banks is the name of his detective and he is a great character just love him. The book above is the 18th in the series but as usual I read everything the wrong way round but it does not really matter that much as the thrillers are complete. So that means I have 17 more to read and as my old friend says I hope I live long enough to read them all. I was saying to Stuart who was the one who discovered Peter Robinson if the drama makers are looking for a new detective series now that they have stopped making Wire in the Blood he would be a great substitute. I have the feeling Jan (Serendipity) mentioned him a while ago must have forgotten sorry Jan. I am a great fan of Jeffrey Archer not the person but what he writes. I thought this was one of best lately. I have read it very quickly I just could not put it down. I love the main character he was great and very believable the story just sweeps you along. It is the best book I have read in ages. I was chatting to a lady I know about books and I told her what I was reading and she said she would not read any of his books because of who he was. I would not deprive myself of such good stories because I do not like the person who wrote them. As I get most of my books from our local hospice charity shop he does not gain any money from me, so it's not so bad that way. If you get the chance read this one it's fabulous. Till next time which will not be long as I have just started a James Patterson/Andrew Gross book and you know how quickly you get through them. The guy co-authors many books with James Patterson, this is his first solo flight. I really enjoyed this book it is about witness protection (the blue zone) something I had not read about before so it made a refreshing change of subject. I was told it was unputdownable and that was true it was great, and moved along at a fast pace. I read most of it sitting outside last weekend while we had some warm sunshine, pity winter returned with a cold easterly wind all the past week so no more reading in the sun as yet. I did read a few books in bed mostly rubbish which I will not bore you with but they were easy reading when my concentration was not at its best. If you get the chance try Andrew Gross sure you will enjoy this one. Till next time I hope we get some sun to read by. The book takes place in a village in Norfolk which as you know is one on my favourite places. The story is the start of Dr David Hunter stories he is a good character and it is a fast paced book with lots of twists and turns. In places it is very graphic even a bit gory at times but it is a good book and I would recommend it to anybody who likes a good thriller. I notice Simon has a new book just out with the same character in the lead. As you know Taggart on the telly takes place in Glasgow, Rebus books by Ian Rankin and on the telly is set in Edinburgh, Stuart MacBride's thrillers take place in Aberdeen. When I started this book I really enjoyed it, some of the Aberdeen language is used and it is very funny the story was good and it moved along at a good pace something I like. Later in the book there was an awful lot of gratuitous swearing which I hate it even put Martina Cole in the shade and you now how I feel about that. Don't think I well read anymore of his work there are plenty of fine authors out there that can write books without all the swearing. Will only give this a 5/10 because of the swearing. Every year I always get a book from Stuart in by Christmas box. Coming up to Christmas Stuart reads book reviews with me in mind and tries to find something different for me to read. He usually gets it right and this year as not exception. This was a good book most of it takes place on the island of Mull during the winter. His descriptive powers are fabulous you really feel you are there says Joan as she cosied down under the duvet. I think this is the third book with the same characters but that did not matter to this story. It is just available in hardback at the moment but I do like a hard back they just have a lovely feel to them unless you drop off with it in you hand. Back to the book this is the third book Sam Bourne has written and the second one I have read started, 'The Last Testament' but put it down was not in the mood of that story at the time will probably go back to it. The story jumps back and forward between present day and WW2 not the war but about the Jewish Holocaust. It was very interesting, as I have not read much about this subject have seen Schindler's List and the likes but a book if different you are so much more involved. The author seems to like writing about Judaism as both the books I have read by him are very much about the subject although totally different stories. The Righteous Men is all modern day whereas The Final Reckoning jumps back and forward from past to present. The story is rooted in fact so does become very believable. Will read his next book as he does write books that are out of step not the usual thriller or action adventure that I usually read. A tad long but a great story just the same. This one is worth 7/10 Till next time. I have tried three different books the last one I have read nearly 200 pages and am still not into it, its a Linda Fairstein book it got off to a great start then changed to a long drawn out effort and last night I decided reluctantly to put it down and look around for something else. I was given this book by a friend. This is unusual for me I usually choose my own books. I had seen this book in Waterstone's and noticed it was the winner of Richard and Judy's Summer reads. I really enjoyed this book. It was a great story and had you wondering for most of the story is it a mystery is it a thriller or is it a science fiction. I am not going to say which one it turns out to be as it would spoil it for you and you should read this lovely book. The characters are well written and very believable. The story starts right on page one and keeps the pace up all the way through. I don't suppose I would have read this book if it had not been for my friend giving it to me. I would recommend this book and give it ****

Till next time Love Joan.
Joanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09013735501807087891noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4743580997705230644.post-48779769500921764292008-10-07T14:03:00.000+01:002008-10-07T14:14:10.203+01:00Sorry about the move.

Sorry about the move to a new HTTP but I had made a mistake when I started this blog and it was causing me a lot of bother so could you please sign back in as one of my followers and that will be it sorted.

Welcome To My Bookcase.
Hello and welcome to my new books blog. I have been writing a book journal for the last eighteen months on AOL journals but as you know we have been thrown out of there so this is my new home. I write a short review of all the books I read usually every week or so depending on the length of the books and the size of the type I hate small type takes all the enjoyment out of a book for me, if fact I check the size of type before anything else. I read mainly thrillers but you never know what will be next. At the moment I am reading 'Written in Bone' by Simon Beckett not quite finished it so I will be back in a day or so to write up my first report. I hope you will join me here and let me know what your are reading with any recommendations you might have as we readers are always looking for new authors. So till I get my book finished I will close now.

Written In Bone.by Simon Beckett

At last I have managed to finish my book Written In Bone. I should have been done with it days ago but I have spent so much time on my pc playing about with my blogs that by the time I get upstairs to bed my head is splitting and I am ready for the land on nod. I digress, the book, this is the first one of this author I have read, a friend over on Shelfari recommended this author and am so glad she did.
The book takes place on a remote Hebridean Island. It has a great plot and very interesting characters. There is a storm raging all the way through and it creates a great atmosphere . It moves along at a good pace and keeps you going right to the last pages and I mean the last page. Enjoy. Going to do stars this time not out of ten like I did over there so this one gets.. **** stars.
The book I am going to start tonight will be
No Time For Goodbye by Linwood Barclay.Take care and happy reading Joan.
Posted by Joan at 06:42 2 comments
Labels: Simon Beckett, Written in Bone
Thursday, 2 October 2008

Joanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09013735501807087891noreply@blogger.com3
